Project 3: Final Project

For this project, we decide to do an online showroom along with an isometric poster as an introduction. With this decided, we then proceed to gathered more information for it and then we compiled it into a documents so it looks more organized.

The above is the sketch of the poster and we has yet to put in the info and the pictures since we haven't finalized the whole outcome of the online showroom.

For the online showroom part, we have decided to focus on 3 aspects on Wayang Kulit after doing the survey:
  1. Story of Wayang Kulit
  2. Art and Design of Wayang Kulit
  3. Music Instruments used in Wayang Kulit performance

After a short meeting with Ms. Jinchi, she suggested us to add some elements of Wayang Kulit so that the whole thing wouldn't looks so plain and boring. Plus, the visitors would also be interested in looking more of it. After much editing, it looks like this:

With our teammates much research and talent on how to create the model of the instruments used in Wayang Kulit, we were able to put some 3D models of the instruments in the showroom:

fig 1.7; Instruments of Wayang Kulit - Gambung and Slethem;

My talented teammate has also added this and in my opinion, it look very amazing and I really liked it! However, pictures does not do my group justice, and thus I strongly recommend you to click this link and explore our online showroom: https://framevr.io/fd4-mzc-wls

FEEDBACK

Try to make the virtual showroom to have the Wayang Kulit style, consider about light and shadow. For the products in the middle, find something that connects with the target audiences. Replace the still image of the musical instrument with a short video clip. Be aware of the choice of typeface that we are using in the virtual showroom.

REFLECTION

What are the 3 key things I have learnt in this module this semester?
- The 3 key things I have learnt in this module is that I have definitely learn more about the topic that we have chosen, Wayang Kulit, I have also improve my leadership, critical thinking and communication skills. Besides that, I have also learnt some technical skills on how to execute certain ideas and the importance of a culture and why we should preserve it.

Although I have heard of Wayang Kulit before, I have never really learn more about it and thus I only know that much. At first, like the others, I also think that Wayang Kulit originated from Malaysia, and that Wayang Kulit is just for entertainment purposes only. I didn't know the meaning behind it and what role it is playing as. However, by taking this module, I was able to have a chance of learning more about it and I was surprised when I found so much information that prove my initial impression of it to be very wrong. By doing this project, I have also notice that I'm not the only one, and that there quite some people who are the same as me. And thus, that kinda fill me with motivation to enlighten my friends and family about what Wayang Kulit is.

In this module, my groupmates have chosen me as their group leader despite my shortcomings. I was really reluctant at first due to my lack of experience and skills to actually be able to lead my group to the end of the module. However, my groupmates told me that they will help me in anyway they could, and thus, I decided to accept the role. I'm really bad at communication, and my leadership skills are really poor, however I'm really glad that none of my groupmates blame me for that. And although we have some "friendly disagreements" here and there during our meetings, we were still able to solve it without making it a big fuss. During the whole module, I was required to think a lot, and I'm not good at that however, sometimes things just doesn't go the way you wanted, and in times like these, one will have to think thoroughly on how to find an appropriate solution to solve the problems. Plus, it is also very comforting to know that I have very talented and responsible teammates to help me, as we all know, a spider without legs cannot move, without its head cannot live. With that said, I'm very grateful to my teammates.

Throughout this module, I find it quite sad to think that there are cultures that are like Wayang Kulit. They will slowly start to disappear if they don't have any support from anyone. I sometimes think that how should one preserve the culture so that it won't disappear? What was the best way to do this? Or
is there a way to revive it? Although I do not know if making this online showroom can actually helps preserving or promoting the culture, I do hope, as a designer in the future, I will be able to do things like these, to make our designs or products have a purpose instead of just creating it for the purpose of creating it. Afterall, the truth "death" of something isn't when it is dead but when it is forgotten by everyone.

What are my strengths in this module?
- I think one of my strengths is my ability to organized things. I disliked it when things are messy and so sometimes when I held a meeting with my groupmates, I will clearly tell them the agenda of the meeting and what they need to prepare beforehand. I would also keep up with my team's progression of the project to know where they are stuck at or where do they need help. I would always try to make things easier for my teammates, so when they are done with their part, we can easily move on to the compilation part or the final outcome of a project.

What are my weaknesses in this module?
 - One of my weakness is that I'm very terrible in trying to execute the ideas. I would do it in a very roundabout way due to my lack of skill and thus hold the group back from proceeding to the next part. Basically, my technical skills in creating an online showroom or making an isometric poster is very bad and I really need to improve myself in that aspect. However, thanks to my amazing groupmates, they were able to fill in the places where I lacked. I was mostly in charge of places where we need to gather information and or communicating with our supervisor, personally I think that it was once my weakness, however I was able to improve a lot throughout this module.

How have I change after taking this module?
- I think I have not only obtain valuable knowledge throughout this module, but I have also learnt the importance of working as a group and thus during the 4th or 5th weeks of the module, I was able to work more easily with my team. Not only that, but I have also learn to be more mindful of others when they are providing their ideas or opinions. I'm also able to improve a bit of my technical skills, although it is not much, however, it is better than learning nothing.

If I could improve this module, it would be...
- Well, it would definitely be the duration of the assignments. Although all of us are able to finish it in time, however it is always accompany by a few sleepless nights, hahaha, though that may also be because of our poor time management. However, one can't deny that the timeframe to finish each assignments is tight. Even so, I could understand why the time is distributed that way.
