Progression

INSTRUCTIONS

PROGRESSION

Week 1 - 2:

For the first week, we started our class with Mr. Asrizal giving us a brief on what major project is. He told us that this time we're allowed to be in groups to work on our major project. Furthermore, Mr. Kannan also mentioned how we should brainstorm for our major project.

After that I started to think how I should proceed with my major project while in the meantime, searching for partners. I then started to group up with Jia Yee for my major project.

We then started to brainstorm for ideas, both of us have came up with all sorts of ideas, yet none of them feels like it would be best suited for us. After coming up with a few ideas we think could work, we started organizing it:

Fig 1.2; Ideation 2; Week 1;

After consulting with Mr. Asrizal, he told us that our first idea seem to be able to work on, and thus, my teammate and I started to discuss on how we should further improve our idea.

Week 3-4:

On week 3, we started to consult with our supervisor, which is Ms. Anis. She seemed very intrigued in the idea of the Bingo part, and also mentioned that some of features for the project is a little bit unrealistic. And so, in order to understand more how useful this project is to people and also to get more insightful feedback and opinions, we decided to conduct an interview, below are some of our interview questions.

Fig 1.3; Interview Questions (Semi-structured);

After conducting the interview to 5 people, we then made a brief conclusion of the interview which is shown below:
  • Majority struggle with everyday decisions like food, activities, and clothing choices.
  • Interested in local events but lack a reliable way to keep track of them.
  • Intrigued by the idea of a promotional machine, they feel overwhelmed by the abundance of apps.
  • Feels that machines as unnecessary if they already have the app.
  • Decision-making and Geo-tagging Bingo are appealing features compare to the others.
  • Concerns on safeness regarding the Bingo feature, such as ending up in shady or boring locations.
  • Foreigners often face challenges finding nearby affordable convenient stores and transportation options.

Week 5-6:

After the interview is done, we then also start making SWOT analysis, moscow prioritization and more just to get to know how we should proceed with our app. After that we started finding the whole art direction we want for our app. First of all, we decided that for our app, since it's a personal daily assistant, we want it to be playful and energetic, so that it can help users feel motivated to go out whenever using our app. After some discussion with my partner, we then started to work on our own tasks.

I first worked on making the wireframes and testing out color palettes, while my partner started to sketch out some mascot sketches. Below is some of my progression:

Week 7-8:

The progression on Week 7 isn't much as it is the photoshoot week. However, after having a more detailed discussion with my partner, we then started to decide on the names, after going through all of them, we feel that "JomGo" is the best to describe our app and also have a catchy and memorable feel to it. So we then start to work our logo towards it.

Fig 1.6; Logo Attempts; Week 7;

After consulting with Ms. Anis, Mr. Shamsul and Mr. Kannan on their own opinions of the logo, we thought the one that best describe what we want is the one with the smiley face, as the main purpose of our app and idea is to keep a smile on their face whilst settling problem they may face when stepping out of their house.

After deciding the logo, we then continue on to proceed with what we were working at.

Week 9 & Week 10:

For both of this weeks, we started to solid our whole idea and features we want for app, not only that but we also started to prepare the presentation deck needed for our presentation to all our lecturers, as we thought that it can be further understand inside it. Other than that, we also continued working on our wireframes and app UI. Below is some of our progression:

Week 11 & Week 12:

On week 11, we have a presentation to all the supervisors. I feel sad that we aren't able to record our own presentation to look back at how it is and how we can improve, but I would like to say my partner Jia Yee and I have done our best! Not to mention, that the supervisors have also give out very useful feedback to us as well. After having our weekly consultation with our own supervisor, Ms. Anis, she also told us how we can go to improve our app.

With that said, we then started to work on further refinements of our icon, wireframes and app UI. Below are some of my progression:

Week 13, Week 14, Week 15

On week 13, week 14 and week 15, both of us just continued working on what we have been doing. We tried to include a lot of animations within the app, and also added a lot of interactivity into our app as well so the users can feel that it's interesting. Below are some of our progression:

FEEDBACK

Week 2:
Feedback from Mr. Asrizal:
A common problem, but you can try and see how to commercialize the idea, making a machine or a tablet. Go beyond just food, places. Think of how to scale the project, but be careful of nice to have features.

Week 3:
Feedback from Ms. Anis
For the review part of our app, we're unable to have the data for the reviews part, and sometimes they are not as honest. Perhaps what we can try to have is for user to upload a picture, and have "picture that speaks a thousand words"; For the bingo part of our app, we need to actually make sure that users actually interacted with the place before they can tag the certain bingo to get the prizes. You can categorize prizes in a pyramid way. We should also determine the style of our app and the feelings our app produce, excited? Challenging? Perhaps can conduct an interview to see what the people think of your app.

Week 4:
Feedback from Ms. Anis
After taking a look at the summary of the interview, Ms. Anis told us that we have identify the problems met quite well. And we should try working towards it. You guys should also think of marketing your app. The machine might seem to be a little useless at this point, since it have a lot of limitations and flaws.

Week 5:
Feedback from Ms Anis
We can try our various form of interaction, and can attempt combinations of gashapon and mascot.allow user to personalise out preferences base on their religion and culture. Furthermore, we need to find the art direction that is align with our theme and some adjectives, to help develop the mascot and all that could emphasize the style of your app, narrow down all the idea and be more clear and specific about them. Furthermore, try to decide the name of your app

Week 6
Feedback from Ms Anis
When deciding the name, is best to choose a name that people find easy to relate to. Ms. Anis mentioned that in all of our options here, the name "ezy" might lead people into thinking like an electronic Godzilla or something. Since your app promotes people on going to an "adventure" perhaps can try names like, "Gogogo!". Also, after deciding on the name of your brand and app, ask around your friends on how they think about it. And also, your logo can be an arrangement of the words  "Gogogo!", You can always look back to the adjectives you have chosen, and decide on the name accordingly, whether it gives out the vibe of the adjectives. In terms of color palette choices, do go ahead and use online tools or existing palettes, however, you need to try and make certain color arrangements for it to fit the UI of your app, do take a look at other existing apps like Grab, Trivago and more as reference. In terms of creating a mascot, it must be first easily to recognize, the silhouette of the mascot must be iconic for example, characters of "Among us". You can use multiple forms of something, vegetable, animal and more as long as it gives out the feel of your adjectives. The emotions of the mascot does not change the original feel of the mascot.

Week 8
Feedback from Ms. Anis
First draft of logo is done, however, some part of your logo does not seems to have the equal sizing. For example the M part, as it looks very sudden there's feet there. While the whole thing seems okay but it's just the first version, you need to continue to refine it. The same goes for the color palette, try it on different pages that you have right now, and see which works the best, then you can straight go ahead with it.

Week 9
Feedback from Ms. Anis
After looking at the second draft of logo is out, from what you guys have did, the logo seems quite refine and have more of your ideas shown. You have the pin and the magnifying glass to indicate all the possible features of your brand and or app. You can try going with the up and down arrangement and try out your colors on the logo. The hero stance of your mascot is out, I can see now your mascots look quite energetic and playful already with this hero stance as before when there's just a normal stance, it seems just like another character drawing, personality is not emphasize in there, but with this hero stance, it is different.

Week 10
Feedback from Ms. Anis
Ms. Anis said that the logo seemed nice, however, you need to watch out the letter "J" in your logo as to some it might not seem very obvious. The typeface chosen is also quite playful as well. Some feedback from Mr. Shamsul, the logo shouldn't have too much elements, focus on one and you can keep emphasizing on that one element to promote your app and also use that one element throughout your brand or app.

Week 11
Feedback from all lecturers (during presentation)
  • From Mr. Zeon:
Think about the rewards system to make users feel motivated and also think about how should you promote your idea and app? Through what means? For the homepage, you can try implementing different mascots and mascot animations depending on mood every day or week.

  •  From Mr. Kamal
The name "Jomgo" is pretty catchy, but have to do research whether the named is used or not. If not, is better to have it registered so it's under you guys. Can register under Taylor's

  • From Mr. Kannan:
You can try to do more than just an app, something like a campaign to promote your brand or app, as this Jomgo should not be just an app, it can be your own brand and there's an app for it. Try thinking about making a campaign timeline on how to further promote your app.

  • From Ms. Anis:
Ms. Anis gave us a compliment on how nice and interesting our presentation is. In our presentation we have some interactions with the audience and also tried to match the vibes of how we want our app to be, most of the lecturers seem to like our project and it's a job well done. However, you guys should try on how to make it better. You don't have to actually make a campaign out, but can try making mockups.

REFLECTION

I always had big dreams coming into projects with such high freedom, but I would always worry whether the idea would work or not. Undoubtedly, I have learned immensely during this project. While sometimes I would very unconfident in my own work as well as my own taste, I would have doubts whether the whole thing is fine or workable or not, or if the logic of the idea is correct or not. I was very lucky that I was able to find someone to group up with to share my worries and also to fill up the part that I was not strong at. I am also very grateful to my partner for keep encouraging me about the idea and also the whole project, without her, I wouldn't be able to push myself over the limit.

I also want to thank our supervisor, Ms. Anis for guiding us throughout the whole project, not only she has shown interest in our project but also provided encouragement to us to keep us going! She has also provided us a lot of insightful feedback as well as giving us on how we should further improve our project. Without her, we wouldn't be able to reach this far!
