PROJECT
Project 1A: Physical Collage
First of all, we were to search for materials to use for the physical
collage. It can be from old magazines, newspapers and or any printed
materials.

Now, on to the pre-compositing stage, where we arrange the the materials
to the composition we want, but do not paste it yet. Below is my progress:
Pre-composition Collage #1

For this Collage, I want to give an impression of females shouldn't
worry about how people view them. We can see it in both our daily life
and in the internet that a lot of people judges females based on either
their attire or appearances instead of getting to know and understand
them. I would like to express that no matter the gender, everyone is
elegant and beautiful.

I have watch a lot of films talking about teenagers and the things that
they could do. Adults often view teenagers as immature kids, however I
think otherwise and that teenagers are the key for unlocking a better
future if properly cultivated. Thus, the "Open your eyes, the city is
mine" is about how teenagers like us are going to try and change adults'
perspectives.

For this design, I would like to express that everyone has their own
rights to chase their dreams, although they may meet tons of
difficulties during their pursuit. However, the satisfaction after
achieving one's dream is unimaginable and thus, people should not give
up so easily and should always find way to overcome the
challenges.
After making some changes, I decide to choose the first collage.

Project 1B: Digital Collage
Next, we have to do digital collages using Adobe Photoshop. We were to create 3 digital collages using images provided by the lecturers. Below is mine:
Pre-composition Digital Collage #1
fig 2.1; Pre-composition Digital Collage #1
I created this digital collage with the idea of how people in our world right now is always busy with their life, work or study or even both. They don't really have much time for themselves or for anyone they love. It's after all, a fast paced society.

For this, I have the idea of people just thinking bout the impossible sometimes, like what if a huge fish suddenly appears in the sky? There's not much significance for this as the first one as I wasn't trying to make it look very meaningful, but instead trying to create a "what's this?" type of feel.
Pre-composition Digital Collage #3

For this digital collage composition, I thought of making it a bit of past vs present type of thing, so it became like war vs the present. I tried to make it look a bit older, but I think that is not the point. The train over at the top left is as if a bit of time traveling. However, I then think its a bit too messy for fig 2.3, I then cleaned it up a bit, it turned out better (fig 2.4).

FEEDBACK
For physical collage, Mr. Martin told me that first one would look better than the rest, however there are changes that are needed to be make, for example, moving the candle to the left. The second collage looks okay, but the background of the boy does not match with the collage background.
For digital collage, Mr. Martin told me that the first one is nicer than the third one, as the third one lacks a focal point. The second one looks clean, but does not have anything much to it.
REFLECTIONS
I have never done any collages before this, so this is definitely a very new experience for me. To be really honest, doing composition, no matter physical or digital has always been something I'm very bad at. From this project, not only have I learned how to do simple compositing, I've also learn the basics of using Adobe Photoshop. I quite like this project, though I do hope I can do better at it, as I feel a bit dissatisfied with my own work.
